Apparently we are all homeless, unemployed, hat wearing, fat lesbians..... well according to Miss England. I have recieved no less than ten phone calls from someone claiming to be Miss England and her shrieking giggling gasping lunatic groupies yelling just the kind of abuse that beauty pageants promote, claiming that we are all jealous, gay, fat or.... erm wear hats.
In addition to this, in the second call I answered where I refused to speak unless they agreed to listen to my responses, they squealed 'Do you have any idea what GOOD we do for society?!!!' by raising money for B-Eat (the proportion of funds being severely questionable when the organiser alone raises over half a million). The pageant itself feeds into a system of oppression whereby women are judged in the most blatant fashion according to a consumer ideal of beauty. This contributes to eating disorders and similar mental health issues to achieve this, whether the the woman is a size 2 or a size 20, is is the notion of judgement that is the issue. The fact that the pageant is sponsored by a cosmetic surgery company explicitly endorses this....
When I explained this, the contestants responses were...
'Youre just jealous!'
'What dress size are you?'
'Do you have a boyfriend?'
'I bet you have great hairy MOLES all over your face!'
Need I say anymore....?
